April & May 2019 Favourites

April & May 2019 Favourites!

Ok, we’re playing catch up a little bit! I could say there wasn’t enough in April to be excited about but in all honesty I forgot. I thought I’d written it, then I was too late. You guys know how life gets. BUT we’re back with my April and May favourites. Let’s jump in

Books

April was the month I discovered Taylor Jenkins Reid one of my new all time favourite authors! I read three of her books in less than 2 weeks. Daisy Jones and The Six was an incredible look at a band in the 1970s and it just felt so real, I’ll have a review on that soon. Following that I listened to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and was transported to old Hollywood – I would 100% recommend the audiobook.

I also read the next book in the Izzy O’Neill series by Laura Steven and I loved it so much! I laughed, got emotional and have been recommending it to everyone. I also got my order of White Rose on the day of release this is a novel about Sophie Scholl written in verse and was a interesting way of looking at The White Rose society.

And last, but not least, I was able to get an advance reader copy of Lucy Powrie’s The Paper and Hearts Society. It’s absolutely adorable and a book for book lovers. I was sent a copy of this for review and I can’t wait to share that with you this month!

Watching

I’ve been actually spending more time than usually watching TV and movies because two of my favourites have ended. It’s been emotional guys. One I haven’t watched yet was the end of the Big Bang Theory – one of my favourite shows as a teenager, I’ll get to it eventually.

Firstly we got to the final of the Avengers films as we know them, I was in a cinema at 8am on a Friday morning to watch and cried so hard I gave myself a headache. I loved it. That said, I think I’m going to need a bit of time before I watch it again because, boy, was that emotional.

Then the following Monday we had the end of Game of Thrones and, I thought it was ok – not exactly how I would have ended it but the series itself had some of the best cinematography I’ve ever seen. I definitely think we needed a longer season or another 2 seasons so it didn’t feel as rushed.

I also had a bit of a Netflix binge and finally watched Bodyguard, yes I’m well aware I’m a year late to the party. I really enjoyed it and am keeping my fingers crossed for a second season. Next on the list is Killing Eve before the second season is released in the UK in June.

Life

April

April was pretty quiet and I spent most of my time either working or at home BUT I did end up with some new glasses ūü§ď. I also found my wedding venue! It’s absolutely beautiful and more than I could have imagined. I’m absolutely in love with it!

Unfortunately, April was our last month full month with Wickett, as he passed away in May but I love this picture of him nibbling on some Broccoli. I also picked up these beautiful earrings from local designer Hannah Viner (her website is here). I’ve been wearing them constantly and they’re so sweet.

May

May on the other hand was pretty busy. My lovely Mum bought me a set for my business with branded goodies, I absolutely love it. Next up I FINALLY got my first Loungefly bag which I’ve wanted for ages and, of course, it has Ewoks on it including Wickett.

I also had my friend Sarah’s Hen Do in London, the Wellcome Book Prize ceremony and a meeting that deserved a Lola’s Cupcake. I got my hair coloured so hello red and we bought home two new hammies, Ghost and Nymeria.

What did you get up to in April and May? I’d love to hear below!

Books

This month it’s been¬†quite¬†a slow reading month I just really couldn’t get into it. The silver lining though is that I’ve loved the books I have read. I finally got my copy of Our Super American Adventure by Sarah Graley which is absolutely awesome, I’ve met Sarah before and love her artwork and stories about her relationship. I also finished what I think is going to be one of my top books this year, My Shitty Twenties¬†by Emily Morris, an honest account of being a single mother in your twenties and still being badass, you can read my review here. I also kept seeing the Andrew Morton book Diana Her True Story¬†and decided to download it on Audible it’s a tough book and I¬†did think it was interesting but incredibly sad on the 20th anniversary of the princess’s death. And finally Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is just amazing, meant for children but should be read by EVERYONE! My gushing review is here.

Watching

Is there anything else to talk about this month? Of course, there’s not. Game of Thrones is over for another season and this one was everything I hoped it would be. I’m not going to post spoilers, because that just not cool. All I’ll say is the following for people who have watched the finale, they deserved that and oh lordy what a beautiful sight. Now I have to wait for the next season…my Dad has already tagged me in a countdown timer.

I did a whooooole post about my little haul this month over here. So head over for all the info you need to know!

Brighton Pride

I went to my first ever Pride and I can honestly say it was the best party I’ve ever been to. It was fun and flamboyant and there was glitter everywhere! I got to sit in a giant deck chair, dance in an 80s¬†disco and I ended up sponsoring a dog…yep (wine may have been involved). I wrote a whole post about 7 reasons you should go next year!

General

This month started off on a good note with a trip to Pizza Express with my ‘spec squad’, that’s me, Abbie and Sarah to celebrate our new little group. It’s been a month of spending time with people I love. Ali went to Brighton and Scotland this month for work, and bought me home Charlie the Highland Cow from the latter, he’s adorable (the cow I mean, although Ali’s ok I suppose). It’s also had milestones with my little sister getting into college! I also went to see 80s super popstars Bros at the O2 in London, which was actually a brilliant laugh with my Mum, sister and mum’s best friend. I also may have gotten a new cauldron mug from the new Primark collection…maybe. And last but not least I’ve been spending as much time as possible with Ali, including on our 9 year anniversary, before he heads off on tour tomorrow!!

July Favourites!

Books

I haven’t read as much as I’d like to this month, partially because I’ve been focusing on my new job (although more on that later). Also, I read books that I didn’t particularly enjoy which is a shame. I¬†did,¬†love the few I did get too. On my holiday I managed to read George R.R. ¬†Martin’s latest novel, set before A Song of Ice and Fire, thankfully this was only around 300 pages and a good start to a new series. I also got to read Dreadnought by April Daniels (review here), which I will recommend to absolutely everyone because you need to read it NEED to! Next up was One of Us Is Lying, think Breakfast Club meets murder mystery. I really enjoyed it and it’s definitely worth a read. I also read Big Little Lies, personally, I don’t think it’s worth the hype but my friend did take some pictures of me reading it…

Watching

Of course, I’ve been watching Game of Thrones, I can’t believe we’re over a quarter of this season through already. At this point, I honestly have no idea who will end up on the Iron Throne but I have some idea of who we’ll be saying goodbye to this season.

Fashion and Beauty

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I cut off my hair! Yep, I booked the appointment walked in and got the wonderful Millie to take it off and I’m so much happier for it! I also went and bought my new ‘out there’ coat from Zara in the sale. Spray paint, sequins and bright pink fluffy material, it was more than a coat it was a signal, I’m here world! I also picked up 3 new dresses from H&M for work in cute colours and designs. And finally, not specifically beauty but I have been getting back into the gym with Abbie. Healthy body, healthy mind, right?

Holiday

This is the last time I’ll mention it for a while I swear…or at least I’ll try. Of course one of my favourites this month was my trip to Majorca! You can read about it here.

General

I’ve had so much going on this month, so to squeeze it into a few pictures! I started my new job and only a few days later went to house sit for my Mum caring for the Fur Babies Lottie and Ed. It wasn’t just a big month for me, my baby sister turned 16, left school and had her prom she looked so beautiful and I can’t quite believe how she’s growing up. ¬†It’s also been a collecting month with San Diago Comic Con pop vinyls (super hard to get) released and I was so happy to be able to get my two Harry Potter ones I’d hoped for, I also have pre ordered a few of wave 3… I’ve also had some great events a leaving Tea Party, going to see The Addams Family Musical and Abbie’s 23rd birthday!

Winter is here…

7e4716293e784ce32a98447aa70d21c4

The time has come and Winter is here! Tomorrow the eagerly anticipated 7th season on Game of Thrones starts and I could not be more excited, even though I only started watching this year. I know, I know! I’m so late to the party! I only started watching early in the year and watched about 2 seasons a month for 3 months…Oops.

There’s something about Game of Thrones, although I have tried to read the book and found it a little challenging just because it is so long and so dense. That said I want to give it a go again because¬†it’s an incredible world to have fallen in love with and it’s so rich in imagination. Just like my love for Harry Potter and Star Wars, Game of Thrones has become an addiction. I want to know as much information as possible about the character, I think about it so much before the next installment it drives me insane.

My predicted deaths for this season are; Cersei Lannister – at the hands of one of her brothers, Little Finger – although I think this is more wishful thinking on my part and many others and finally I have a horrible feeling that Gilly isn’t going to make it but I’m really, really hoping that I’m wrong on this one.

What are your predictions for this season? Let me know in the comments below!

Sunday Seven: My Holiday Reading Shortlist!

Aside from spending time with my boyfriend and exploring, the thing I’m looking forward to most on holiday is having time to sit and read without distraction! I’ve had a few ARC copies sent to me that I want to sit and get through as well as one or two newer releases that I want to pick up! So let’s take a look through my shortlist.

cover106285-medium

The Summer of Impossible Things РRowan Coleman

In the blurb there is talk of time-travel, family bonds and some form of secrecy, it sounds like a great next read and I’ve heard great things about Rowan Coleman.

A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms – George R.R. Martin

I’m going to admit that I haven’t gotten through all of the Game of Thrones books because, well you could hold a door with them (get it…yes my jokes are terrible) but I’m up to date with the TV show so know enough. I took a look through this, not only is it shorter but it’s also illustrated! I can’t wait to go and pick this up before I go away.

cover103588-medium

See You in the Cosmos

This is a young teen book but seems interesting. Music, space and family are all included in this book. I’m not sure what initially¬†made me want to read it but I think it’s going to be a heartwarming novel.

cover97312-medium (2)

Dreadnought – April Daniels

I am so stupidly excited to read this book. This is another YA novel but this time focusing on Superheroes, Gender and saving humanity. Sign me up.

 cover106249-medium (1)

One of Us is Lying РKaren M. McManus

This seems like a The Breakfast Club meets murder mystery. The Breakfast Club is one of my favourite¬†films so the whole idea of these teenagers who are so different coming together could go really well. I’m hoping it goes really well.

cover104898-medium

The Best of Adam Sharp РGraeme Simison

I LOVED The Rosie Project when I read it a few years ago and I’m so excited that there is a new direction that Simison is going in and I’m excited to read his style of writing again.

The Power РNaomi Alderman

We were going to read this for my new book club, but on a vote, we decided on another book. This really seems intriguing with female power and a fear of it being the central point, I’m really hoping to pick this up at the airport.

April Favourites!

We’re at the end of April already! It’s been a fairly quiet month for me in terms of buying/reading (click here to find out why) BUT I still have a few favourites for you!

Books:

31577750

Anne Boleyn The Final 24 Hours

I absolutely love learning about the Tudors, I love factual books, fiction and fine Anne Boleyn one of the most interesting Queens. I bought this on my kindle and read it on my phone within 24 hours. A very different take on events looking not just at Anne, but also other key people at this time. Definitely a good read for any other Tudor lovers.

30842471

Cheer Up Love – Susan Calman

I’ve really wanted to read this for a while, I hadn’t known Susan as a comedian so I didn’t really know about that aspect of her but this was a really interesting look at depression and her experience with it. I really appreciated her honesty and humour. Definitely a recommended read.

30521409

Supergirl Rebirth

I haven’t picked up much of the DC Rebirth and I¬†was really pleasantly surprised. Supergirl is awesome! She’s a really cool lady and I enjoyed the story, looking forward to picking more of these up.

Music:

Hard Times РParamore

THEY’RE BACK, THEY’RE BACK, THEY’RE BACK. Legitimately¬†danced to Sainsbury’s to this song. I’m so excited to hear the new album and the evolution of Paramore.

Rebel, Rebel – David Bowie

When I was younger I wasn’t that into Bowie, but since my university opened the Visconti Studio (Tony Visconti worked on a lot of Bowie’s albums) and my boyfriend started working there I’ve been listening to a lot. I’ve had this on repeat.

With or Without You РEmma Blackery

This has been stuck in my head since I first heard it.

Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur¬†

I’ve had a rough month and Ali has been absolutely brilliant, this song reminds me of him.

Watching:

Game of Thrones

I. am. obsessed. I’m half way through season four and I have no doubt I’ll get to the end of season six in time for the new series.

Tribute to Carrie Fisher

I was heartbroken when Carrie died back in December, I was lucky enough to meet her and cried many tears after her death. The celebration of her life at Star Wars Celebration this year was wonderful and left me sobbing.

Emma Blackery

I’ve been a fan of Emma’s channel for a few years and this month she’s doing a challenge and doing really well. Killing it as always.

Sunday Seven: My Christmas Wishlist

holidays

Can you believe it, we’re already in our first Sunday of December! The big day is only 21 days away and I could not be more excited! Now, my Mum is super organised, she asked me for a Christmas wishlist weeks ago (which meant I had to think fast), the conditions she had were that I wasn’t allowed to ask for any Pop Vinyls or Lush products (I go to the Lush sale on Boxing Day, last year I spent a little more than I planned). So this year I thought I would share with you seven things I popped on this list!

vans-toy-story-jumper

Reach For The Sky Toy Story jumper, Vans.

I am a HUGE lover of Toy Story, it’s one of my all time favourite films. I saw this jumper in the collab between Disney and Vans and wanted it from that second.

Calvin Klein Underwear

Normally I’m not one for designer products BUT I received a black pair of these for my birthday this year and they are the most comfortable set of underwear¬†I’ve ever owned. Comfort is key when it comes to underwear.

61tpi8dmuhl-_sx383_bo1204203200_

Great British Bake Off 2016 book

This was the first year I really got into Bake Off and I absolutely LOVED it. So, of course, I’ve added this to my list, especially as it’ll be the last one featuring Mary, Mel and Sue, *sob*.

61zxfvn2ztl-_sx319_bo1204203200_

Fantastic Beasts Screen Play

This was a last minute addition after seeing Fantastic Beasts last week. I am obsessed with Harry Potter anyway, I loved the characters and this is an absolutely beautiful  cover.

71ykrars2l-_sx522_

Game of Thrones Monopoly

I love monopoly, I’m loving making my way through the GoT novels so this is just something fun to have! Perfect for Winter ūüėČ

screen-shot-2016-12-04-at-14-26-08

Ron Weasley’s¬†Wand

Of the golden trio I only have Ron’s wand to get. Currently, I have Harry, Hermione and Ginny’s wands so it seemed only right that I finally get Rons. I’m also hoping to add to my collection later with other Wands such as Newt Scamander and co.

27423753

In the Dark, in the Woods РEliza Wass (Also known as The Crasswell Plot)

This is one of a few books I’ve put on my wishlist, I’ve heard so many good things about this book and it’s known to be quite creepy!

What is on your Christmas wishlist? Leave in the comments below!
