Sunday Seven: Films I Can’t Wait to See

popcorn-1085072_1280

We’re now in the last quarter of the year (how it’s come around so quickly I have no idea) and while I’m sad that the days are getting shorter and rainy days are becoming more frequent, I’m also excited because that means that curling up in the dark of a cinema instead of being outside isn’t frowned upon. So here are 7 films that are still to come this year that I’ll be picking up a ticket for.

Bridget Jones’s Baby

16th September

I’ve loved Bridget Jones for years so hearing that she was going to come back and it wasn’t going to be based on the latest book made me stupidly happy. I have plans to go on my birthday weekend to see what Bridget’s got herself  into this time.

The Girl on The Train

7th October

I saw the trailer for this and while it’s spoilt some things about the book, which I intend to read before seeing it, I was hooked. I can’t wait to see one Emily Blunt in this kind of role.

The Light Between Oceans

4th November

I loved this in novel form and I’m both excited and nervous to see how it comes across in a movie. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking story with Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) playing the female lead.

Rogue One

16th December

This story is set before A New Hope and after seeing what Disney have done with The Force Awakens I have high hopes that they can pull this off too. It’s all about how the Rebels got hold of the plans for the Death Star. *please be good, please be good, please be good*

Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them

18th November

Harry Potter and Eddie Redmayne combined? Sold.

Doctor Strange

28th October

Marvel knows how to make a good movie. While I wasn’t crazy about the Doctor Strange comic book I read, I have seen the trailer and it appears to have the Marvel charm. This is going to be a definite watch.

A United Kingdom

25th November

I don’t know too much about this film but the trailer looked breathtaking a story of love against the odds as the Prince of Botswana marries a young white woman in the 1940s.

What else should I be booking a ticket for? Let me know in the comments!

Book Review: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl- Jesse Andrews

Me_and_Earl_and_the_Dying_Girl

“If after reading this book you come to my home and brutally murder me, I do not blame you.”

Greg tells us from the beginning that he has no friends, apart from Earl who’s the closest thing he has to a friend because they make movies together. He’s happy to be on his own, being a loner at school will get him through high school almost unnoticed. Well, that is until his mother asks him to comfort a childhood friend who has cancer, how can he say no to a person with cancer?  After Rachel stops her treatment for Leukemia, Greg decides to make a film for her and this is that story.

There was a lot of hype around this novel, especially when it was announced that it would be turned into a film. As always I wanted to read the book before seeing the film and now I don’t think I’ll be watching the film at all as this novel really isn’t what I thought it would be.

There is a time for self deprecating humour, but throughout a whole novel is not the place for it. I understand that it is part of that character and how he perceives himself and the world but the character of Greg drove me insane throughout the whole novel. It felt as if Andrews wanted us to hate the book, it got old pretty fast.

The novel just didn’t sit well with me, while at times it was honest I couldn’t get on with the narrative style, that doesn’t mean it was a bad book, just not to my taste. I think one of the things I struggled with was that I don’t think Rachel was fleshed out as well as she could have been and Earl was very stereotypical.

Overall I really didn’t like this book, there were points the felt kind of sweet but this was quickly taken away. I just felt that I couldn’t connect with Greg at all and if I’m honest he just annoyed me. This made me really sad as I’d heard so much hype about how funny and charming it was but I honestly didn’t find like that at all. With that in mind I gave it a 2 star review BUT I do think this would work a lot better as a film just because of the way in which it is written.

So, should I watch the film? Did you like the novel? Let me know in the comments below!

My Top 10 Films to watch at Christmas

I thought I would treat you all to another top 10 seeing as my life currently consists of my temp job, sleeping and trying to fit everything around it. Here are some of my top films to watch at Christmas even though some of them arn’t that traditional.

10. Any Harry Potter film…

To say that I’m obsessed with Harry Potter is an understatement. There are two times that all of the films should be on the TV, once in the Summer and then again at Christmas, or you know any time of year at all really…

9.Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Matilda and Santa teamed up and it got adorable. Ok so this film came out when I was a few months old I don’t have to watch it at Christmas but it’s always nice to have on the TV.

8.The Grinch that stole Christmas

One thing you need to know is that I am the girlfriend to another Grinch. I loved this film growing up, I don’t have any real reason why but it just is a great Christmas film.

7.Tangled

A lot of people won’t understand this choice because I’m 19 and it’s so new for a Disney film. For some reason this is on every Christmas now and I absolutely love it! C’mon she hit’s him around the head with a frying pan, sorry spoiler alert.

6.Shrek

Another film that just seems to be on around Christmas and one that makes me laugh all the time. It doesn’t matter if it’s 1,2 or 3, not 4 I haven’t seen 4. You can just sit down and watch Shrek no matter what age you are.

5. Bridget Jones’ Diary

It is not Chistmas or even December until I have watched Bridget Jones. It starts and ends at Christmas and we can’t forget the lovely jumpers or the Turkey Curry Buffet!

4.Toy Story 2

I was only 4 when this came out in 1999 and I was obsessed with it, I even had the Jessie the cowgirl outfit. It’s another family film with a happy ending.

3.Toy Story

…Of course you can’t just watch Toy Story 2 and this is the film that is mainly on the TV at this time of year. Who doesn’t love a bit of Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang!

2. Elf

‘IT’S SANTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’

There is a reason this is in at number 2. The writers of Elf are incredible I worship them. As for Will Farrell? Oh my lord that man is funny. It makes kids laugh, it makes adults laugh and it has brilliantly inappropriate burping.

1. Love Actually

This is where I am allowed to be a girl. This is my all time favourite Christmas film even if my boyfriend is mean and wont watch it with me (he say’s it is too girly). It’s so well written and there are so many great actors in it. I also get some eye candy between Hugh and Colin.

I do not own these images…please don’t sue my arse.
