Sunday Seven: Seven of this weeks pics!

I’ve spent most of the past week in Basingstoke, meaning I’ve been very snap happy this week, so for a little something different I wanted to share my top seven snaps of this week.

IMG_7606

Ed doesn’t like me shutting the door whenever I’m at home, he wants all the attention, no matter what time it is. I snapped this little pic while I wanted to sleep and Ed wanted to play.

IMG_7626 This week my little cousin and Godson turned 13. 13! Harvey and I are really close, he’s my little dude and I can’t believe he’s gone from this chubby cheeked baby to a really awesome little man. Also, check out the cake that my super awesome sister made!

IMG_7634 It was doughnut day this week so I popped to the shop and picked up these beautiful, scrummy pink ones. They tasted good, so good. IMG_7600

I was finally able to pick up my Illumicrate from my parents! I was not only surprised but loved every item in the box and can’t wait for my next one. If you missed my post, find it here.IMG_7627

Lottie is my shadow whenever I come home. This didn’t change this week, if you couldn’t find her you could guarantee she was on my bed fast asleep…even if it’s a choice between my Mum’s double bed or my single, she still chooses my bed.

 IMG_7628

This is Betsy, my aunts puppy, she’s also known as Chewbacca by my cousins. I swear she’s like a little walking rug apart from she jumps up and wants cuddles and has a fondness for cake. Don’t you love this little smile too?!

IMG_7631

Another one of my little mischief maker in the evening.

My Year – 2015

It’s been a funny old year for me. I sit down to write this post and I don’t know what to think. My overwhelming feeling is at one end I’ve learnt a lot but at the other I’ve also had to deal with things I wouldn’t have imagined. I feel like next year is going to be a mixed year too, but hopefully not as painful. 2016 has a lot of new challenges lined up and if I’m honest I am scared but I’m also excited. For now, here’s a roundup of 2015!

January

I played my first show in central London

IMG_1623

Back in January the boys and I played our first show just around the corner of Leicester Square! We got a great number of people down and had a great time!

I fell in love with a horse

IMG_1646

At the stables I fell in love with Ruby. In January I started going to the stable at the weekends, grooming and spending hours just playing and stroking her.

I had a tough time, then treated myself

I struggled in January for a few different reasons and so I went and treated myself to some new bits and a hair cut. I started to listen to how I felt and what I needed to stay well.

I got to share horse riding with my sister

blog 5

I got to take my little sister horse riding! She loved it and it was great for my Mum and Summer to see me ride.

February

I celebrated Harry Potter Book Night

Joe and I trekked into London for Harry Potter Book Night. It was so much fun to dress up, hand out with one of my best mates, meet the new illustrator and win a signed copy of Philosopher’s Stone.

I struggled and I swam.

While trying to look after myself I started trying to swim whenever I felt down, a big step for me.

I got told I was a ‘game changer’

I got filmed for a documentary that a third year student was making. I was called a ‘game changer’ which I didn’t believe but was really pleased with all the same 🙂

March

I couldn’t say goodbye…and broke my heart

IMG_1744

The beautiful Ruby was sold and I never got a chance to say goodbye and it broke my heart. She was such an incredible horse and I had an amazing connection with her.

I won a KU Talent award!

11061659_10153175701943637_3583099843793063172_n

I was up for two awards this year ‘Second Year of the Year’ and ‘Overcoming Adversity to Achieve’, which I won. I was so shocked because the category was so strong, I had an amazing night with my Mum and it was definitely one of the highlights of my year!

I became a President

I became President of the Kingston University Horse Riding Society and won most improved rider for the year! It was a true honor and another great part to the month.

I fell in love with Sign Language again

Working with young people who were hearing impaired was a great experience and made me even more determined to work with disabled students at the university.

…I dropped my phone down the toilet.

Oh yeah, that.

April

I had the best Easter

10676239_10153232794828637_3165432725276275444_n

I had such a fun family easter! We really had fun all together, my sister doesn’t look happy because for the first time in years I beat her at the egg hunt!

I went back to Durham!

IMG_2343

I was lucky enough to take a trip back up to Durham to see Ali’s grandparents for their anniversary. I absolutely love going up to Durham it’s beautiful and always relaxing.

I got my two babies

IMG_2621

I bought Hamski and Noodle home ❤ My two little fur babies came home together and although they were eventually separated they originally loved cuddling together! They also proved to be a much needed distraction in the coming months.

I fell off a horse…

IMG_2616

Yep, a simple fall meant my first ride in an ambulance. I was taken in, left in a hospital in the middle of nowhere and luckily had Laura with me. At first I was told I was fine and got back on a horse 3 days later…

May

I found out that I had broken my spine

After 2 weeks of feeling really sore and then an MRI scan I found out that I’d broken my spine with further damage to other vertebrate, muscle, soft tissue and nerve damage. The 7 hours wait to find out what had gone wrong was just the start of a very long journey ahead.

I used a wheelchair for the first time

I cried a lot when I had to use the chair because I couldn’t walk. Luckily Amy came to get me so I didn’t miss out on our girls dinner before Alissa went back to the US. I ended up having fun and forgetting about the chair for a little bit.

I was part of a winning society!!

IMG_2817

I wasn’t in any fit state to travel so I had to cancel Prague with Dani and Eleanor. To keep my spirits up Amy and Laura took me to the society awards where our society won 2 awards!!

I got my first Spinal Brace

11220873_10153929545088206_25953263734917719_n

My physiotherapist is an angel and made sure I had my brace before I flew to Athens. It was hot, sweaty and uncomfortable but it done the job, I was honestly just relieved to have some support for my spine!

June

I went on my first international creative trip & my first holiday with just Ali (by accident)

What was supposed to be a solo trip to write became a couples trip when I still couldn’t walk! Ali and I ended up having a great time and I finally felt like a writer!

I got a dream job

I got my job as a Social Media Coordinator, one I applied for but never thought I would get. It’s honestly been one of the best jobs I’ve ever had and it was great having the responsibility!

I got a new tattoo!

IMG_3640

I couldn’t go to Foo Fighters in my wheelchair (it was cancelled in the end anyway) so I used the money to get a tattoo that was particularly meaningful then and still is now.

I bought a lot of books…a lot.

What else is a girl to do when she’s mostly stuck in the house?

July

I said goodbye to friends again

I said goodbye to Eleanor and Maisha as they jetted off for a year of study in New Zealand! Proud friend moment!

I played Basingstoke Live!

11741189_10153406101991963_286158971070072252_o

This was my first show post diagnoses. I had my own box, my brace had been taken off and there was a ramp for me. I don’t know how but I got through and it was a great show!

I got frustrated.

I quickly realised I had put on a fair bit of weight and couldn’t really leave the house, sad times.

I had my sister come to stay 🙂

2015-07-31 18.13.19

One of the highlights of my summer was having this munchkin stay with me and going to see Paper Towns early!

August

I met Don Broco

11813448_10154126067908206_2804505148064960901_n

Acoustically beautiful and some really lovely lads,

I celebrated living with Ali for a year!

We didn’t kill each other even when I couldn’t move without him! He’s been amazing this year!

I went to my first book club

I got out of my comfort zone, met a friend and bought a lot of books!

I went to the Zoo with some little monkeys

Even though I had to use a wheelchair for our family day out and got rained on I had a great day spending time with family 🙂

I got addicted to comic books

IMG_4355

Damn you Joe, Damn you!

I survived second year!

Despite everything I got through second year with a 2:1 overall…5 marks off of a 1st!

September

I became a third year

Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuun

I got told I was medically shorter than last year!

If I wasn’t short enough, I was told after my CT scans that I have officially lost height and may never get full feeling back in my left leg. That said I also got told that I was healing nicely!

I went to Amsterdam

12010718_10154224225578206_9107895598469638940_o

A great 21st birthday trip with Dani and Amy! Amsterdam was so much fun and my back behaved itself which is a first.

I turned 21!

12019832_10153648607263637_379733686560067871_n

I had an incredible 21st I was spoilt and just felt so loved. This was the handmade cake that my sister made me, I don’t think I’ve ever been given so much cake in my life!

I had a stall at Fresher’s Fair

Rounding up new recruits for the society!

I watched Star Wars…finally

Now I’m completely obsessed! This started the countdown to see the new film.

I got recording!

IMG_4218

We got serious about the EP and I was able to record without a panic attack or doubting myself. A big win for me!

October

I was mentioned in the New York Times

Just for mentioning the 5p plastic bag charge!

I met Katie Piper

12115765_10154308369203206_4213667691308454680_n

I met one of my idols, Katie Piper. We had a great chat, photos and talked about Hampshire where we’re both from. It was also amazing to get a message from KAtie written in my book, she really is a lovely woman.

I went to my first Comic-con

IMG_5092

I fell in love with Comic-con and bought a stupid amount of pops, spending the last of my birthday money. It really encouraged me to get creative for the next one in May.

November

I tried to be classy with Joe

53623732-D4CC-437C-A5E8-193B0331DCF2

McDonalds and Galleries…what more could you want.

I was allowed to go to the gym class!

IMG_5440

A big step in my recovery! 6 weeks of gym sessions proved my spine was healing the right way and I loved them.

I left the society

Unfortunately I couldn’t cope running the society. I had to step down immediately and spent a lot of the month after pretty poorly both mentally and physically.

December

I got to meet Ed!

12321634_10154415601248206_1453299334369940939_n

I got to meet this adorable little man that now takes over my bed!

I saw Star Wars!

12362923_10154441402843206_879430263649784210_o

I fell in love with the new cast and am now even more obsessed. Star Wars is the best.

I went to Olympia!

10296457_10154449172938206_7361295266509727469_o

Laura finally got to use her 21st birthday present and we went to Olympia Horse Show! Such an amazing day out and we’ll definitely be going again next year.

I had an incredible Christmas

IMG_5992

No lows, family time, amazing gifts. A great Christmas ❤

I decided I wasn’t giving up…

920705_10154461061188206_3776559544798507330_o

This year has had some huge challenges and I’ve gotten through them. There’s no doubt I’ve struggled this year a lot and there will be times next year where I’m ready to give up but I won’t.

Happy New Year to all of my lovely readers and thank you so, so much for all your support this year ❤

Not little forever

Today is my not so little cousin Elliott’s 16th birthday which is crazy. I still remember going to the hospital to meet him for the first time, I was five and he was a premature baby and my aunts first child. Now it wasn’t the first time I’d met a little cousin, I already had two female cousins but Elliott I specifically remember meeting. He’s gone from this teeny tiny baby to a gorgeous 16 year old boy.

12042684_716184538483259_2427701370075456123_n.jpg

I was really sick today and so I had to miss his birthday dinner and little family party which broke my heart. I love trying to be here for all of the kids birthdays because I’m close to them. The only difference is that I don’t see some of my family members any more, which means I’ve missed birthdays and celebrations and in the future I’d love to see them again.

So while I was home being looked after by my dog, who didn’t leave my side for hours, I started thinking about all the kids. Then I started thinking about 2016 and all the things I wish for them.

For my sister, I wish for another brilliant year of just happiness and being so badass like she already is.

For Lollie and Ralphie, I just wish for a lot of fun this year and for you to just enjoying being kids and running around and playing.

For El, I hope that the hard work you put in to show in your results and that you really enjoy college. It’s going to be the making of you.

For Harv, I hope you don’t break any bones this year and  carry on being the awesome little dude you are.

For Kieran, I wish for you to love being a big brother! It’s honestly great having a small person in the house!

For Lexi, I hope for a great last year at nursery and an amazing time when you start school.

I honestly want all of them and my other cousins to have a brilliant 2016 and I’ll do anything to make it even better.

Happy 16th Birthday El, love you lots.

Happy 21st Joe!

IMG_5443

This is just a quick post to say Happy Birthday to one of the most amazing people in my life. The brother I never had, the most sarcastic bitch I know and just all around good guy. This is going to be your best year yet!!! Thanks for everything and here’s to getting through our twenteens together!

Happy Birthday Sylvia Plath

MTE4MDAzNDEwNjU4NzU2MTEw

If you follow my blog you’ll know that I am completely and utterly in love with Sylvia Plath. I’m writing my dissertation about her and there’s just something about her work that has a deep connection with me. Today would have been Sylvia’s birthday, unfortunately she took her own life at the age of 30 and has gone on to become one of the world’s best known authors. Happy Birthday Sylvia, thank you for such beautiful work.

So much working, reading, thinking, living to do! A lifetime is not long enough.

Turning 21 – What a birthday!

I’m writing this on what is the last night I am celebrating turning 21! It’s been a great few weeks, kicking off with my trip to Amsterdam earlier this month with the girls, followed by a celebration with my Dad’s side of the family Tuesday, seeing Lucy and my baby girl Lexi in the day on Wednesday and my Little Mermaid themed party with my Mum’s side of the family in the afternoon evening.

IMG_4627

Thursday was pretty average for birthday week with band practice and waiting up with Ali to see in my 21st birthday and finally getting my Ron Pop figure! I woke up to hugs, a load of Facebook messages and texts, to get ready for my Mum coming. I always need to see my parents on my birthday, it’s like you know they’re responsible for me being in the world at all so it’s only right that I see them. For my first present I received a special hardback anniversary edition of To Kill a Mockingbird, one of my favourite books.

12039202_10153645574328637_2195124616780997253_n

We headed into town for some shopping and of course a cocktail, where I also got a free shot for my birthday! After I had to go and get my fox onesie I’d had my eyes on for a week so that I could spend my hangover day in style… I knew I’d have a messy night out, before being met by Ali….with more Pops! Dumbledore and Snape!! I was also met by Joe later with a copy of Y the last man (you should totally check it out) and an incredible colouring book. I really couldn’t wait to meet up with Dad and Summer too 🙂

When they finally got here after my sister was let out of school I was met with this beauty..

12019832_10153648607263637_379733686560067871_n

Yup, this was handmade by my sister as my birthday cake. I got some amazing presents, a Pandora ring I’ve wanted for ages, a new Dolphin charm, mug, wine glass (for vodka, obviously) and I got taken out to dinner with my family, Ali and Joe came along too (with Kermit). I love my family so much and just being with them on my birthday was so special and I think we have a new family picture too!

11741055_10154249865168206_8991033863760158303_o

I’ve had cards from so many people too, including Eleanor and Maisha in New Zealand! My family, Ali’s family, friends, nearly 100 messages on Facebook and then I got a huge surprise when I went to the pub. I couldn’t believe that over 20 people turned up to celebrate with me, friends from all across my life and I was so overwhelmed by it all. I even got more gifts! A Voldemort Pop from Ben and Abbie, a Jessica Rabbit Pop from Laura (because she looks like me!), a lovely quote to go on my wall and earrings from Dani, a book of positive quotes from Aline and Lush stuff from Amy and Peter. I think you can tell from my smile in the pictures how happy I was.

12034339_10154251740633206_1538745843303406705_o 12045737_10154251740723206_2087825780462704514_o 12045361_10154251740828206_8191245136642491748_o 12031338_10154251740933206_8434969234819998781_o                12031590_10154251741103206_2052206814948788943_o 12029747_10154251740333206_4626984003771339432_o                                      11999775_10154251740423206_1765174831684101007_o 12017623_10154251740463206_5022891200635863588_o

And those are just some of the pictures! I just felt so loved all day and it’s something I’ll cherish forever. I also felt loved when Ali took me home and put me in my fox onesie before letting me sleep off the mound of drinks that people had bought me! Luckily for me I also woke up with only a slight headache. Win!

Today was the last part of my celebrations as Ali’s Sister, Mum, her boyfriend came for lunch, bringing with them more presents. From Ali’s Mum and her boyfriend I received a MAC ‘look in a box’ with a lipstick, lip gloss and liner and from Ali’s sister a beautiful copy of Alice in Wonderland, a beautiful novel I’ve never had the chance to read.

I’m a little sad that it’s all over now but I have this overwhelming love and feeling of awe at how many people took time out of their day to say happy birthday, send a message, see me or anything else. Thank you to each and every one of you, I think this has to have been the best birthday ever. Who knows what this year is going to bring but I really, really hope this is the start of another great chapter, oh and to top it off I now have over 1000 Twitter followers, another goal accomplished!

12017615_10154254261673206_338079694281306396_o

Me, now 21.

21 Things about me!

If you haven’t seen already all over my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, today is my 21st Birthday! Yippie!! So while I’m out celebrating with friends and family I thought it would be cute/fun to write a list of 21 facts about me! Enjoy!

  1. I’ve grown up to be a little traveller

I’ve been going abroad since I was 3 years old. So far I’ve visited Paris 5 times, various parts of greece around 8 times, Amsterdam, Spain, the USA 3 times, Italy and that’s just a few! Next up, going back to the US, Australia and New Zealand as well as other parts of europe.

2. I once broke my toe by dropping a place of Chinese on it

If that’s not a waste of food I don’t know what is.

3. Jodi Picoult told me I was a writer in person.

It was possibly one of the best moments of my life.

4. I’ve only just watched the Star Wars Trilogy

…Yup, I’m sorry.

5. I’m shorter than I was for my 20th birthday

Yes, really. When I broke my back, my spine lost height meaning I’m a little shorter than I was before!

6. My Mum had loaded up to do a car boot sale the night she went into labour with me.

Yeah, she wasn’t impressed.

7. My family thought I’d be an escape artist growing up…

I used to get through anything, reins on the pram, chairs, playpens, you name it I was out.

8. When I was three I wanted a tattoo of the kids TV show Tots TV.

9. …I also told my parents I wanted to be a topless model at the same age, because I thought the ladies in the paper were pretty.

10. I thought INSET day was insect day…

In the UK that’s our day off school for teacher training, before I started school I thought it meant you took insects into school to show off.

11. I have a huge Harry Potter collection

It lives under the stairs at my parents house, in my room and in my flat. I don’t think it’s ever going to stop growing.

12. I’m a hobbit.

That was one of my nicknames at college….it didn’t help that my boyfriend told everyone I had hairy toes -.-.

13. I was obsessed with dolphins growing up, I even got to play with them once.

14. 18 is my favourite number.

My birthday, an even number, what’s not to love?

15. I didn’t start using make up properly until I started at university.

Hence why I’m not a beauty blogger and get so excited when I find things now.

16. Blue is my favourite colour.

Seriously if I could I’d have blue everything, headphones, car, phone, if there’s ever a choice most of the time it’ll be blue.

17. I love strawberry flavoured things but hate eating real strawberries.

I’m a bit weird.

18. Pasta is the best staple food there is and if you don’t believe that you are wrong.

I could eat pasta every day and still be in love with it, cheese is a great topper.

19. My first ever concert was The Spice Girls Winter Tour in 1999

Victoria Beckham smiled and waved at me, it was the best moment of my 5 year old life.

20. I’m pretty handy with my toes

I can pick almost anything up with my toes, it’s a pretty cool skill to have.

21. It’s one of my goals in life to learn sign language

I honestly think it’s one of the most beautiful languages in the world

The Queen’s not the only one with two birthdays

IMG_4621

For the past two days I have been spoilt by my family. Because there is so many of them and my flat is more than a little cosy I decided to come home and visit both grandparents to see everyone and celebrate my 21st a few days early.

I spent yesterday in town with my sister, getting my hair cut and spending more than a little on the new H&M beauty range (but more in that in another blog post). Later I popped to see my Dads family for presents and cake.

Today I was on the move again (although my spine really has been protesting), to meet one of my oldest friends and beautiful goddaughter to exchange birthday presents. From Lucy and Lexi I received a necklace of Hermione’s wand and a Harley Quinn graphic novel. I had so much fun with a little girl who melts my heart every time and a great friend in her Mum.

Now, there have been whispers and mentions of surprises all week. I was left at home while my Mum went ahead to my grandparents house, only to arrive and find this…

IMG_4628 IMG_4627
IMG_4625

A little family party with a Little Mermaid theme, my favourite princess as a kid!! A badass cake, plates, customised banners, pictures of me growing up! I couldn’t have asked for more, my Mum really outdid her surprises this time! I felt like a kid again and it was obvious how much time and effort had gone into this and all for me!

I’ve been thoroughly spoilt in terms of gifts as well and I’m so happy with all of them, a new pandora necklace and charm, some little mermaid goodies and  another charm for my Pandora bracelet. I can’t believe I feel this loved and it’s not even my birthday. Oh and we had a brilliant pizza party too thanks to Nanna and Gramps who ordered pizza for everyone!

I think this is going to be a very good week! ❤

IMG_4619

I’m off to Amsterdam!

IMG_2263

When you’re reading this I will be boarding a coach for an 11 hour journey to Amsterdam through the night, tomorrow morning I will be seeing the beautiful sights with two of my best friends. I’m beyond excited to finally be going on a girls holiday and also absolutely terrified after I had to miss out on the trip to Prague because of my fracture, I’ve never been out of the country without my family or Ali before.

I’m looking forward to falling in love with the beauty and culture. We have a list of museums to visit, things to see, a visit to Hard Rock Cafe and there’s a certain surprise that the girls have planned, I have no idea! It’s also going to be rather amusing to go to the sex museum that’s not far from our hotel.

Fear not my faithful followers I won’t be leaving you with nothing! I’ve got a few posts lined up for this week like this months book haul, my piece for suicide prevention day and a book review. Although if you want to see what I’m up to you can follow me on Instagram as I’m sure I’ll be posting up some of mine, Amy and Dani’s adventures follow me on @chloemetz_.

Catch you all at the end of the week! 🙂

Happy Birthday Dad!

268296_10150363852388206_2101415_n

Today is my Dad’s 43rd Birthday so I wanted to write this post about him. After waking up before 9am on a Saturday (totally against my way of life, weekends are for sleeping half the day and staying up all night) I’m pleased to say that the Chelsea FC swimming trunks went down a treat and so did my sisters choctastic cake (with M&Ms, Maltesers and Chocolate Fingers, what else could you want at 8.30am).

I just wanted to write this post to say happy birthday to my Daddy who I love very much and who taught me that being the headstrong little kid I was wasn’t a bad thing and nor was learning to stand up for myself. I love you Daddy ❤

P.S, You were right, acting like a girl isn’t always as awful as I thought it was.
