The Marvel Avengers Book Tag

Seeing as the glory that Endgame has been released, I thought why not have a go at the Marvel Book Tag? I found this over on RiverMoose-Reads and, well, it seemed fitting. FYI I loved Endgame, it’s currently my favourite film of the year and it deserves ALL of the awards.

So, let’s go.

Iron Man – a book that made you laugh out loud:

a-girl-called-shameless-laura-steven

A Girl Called Shameless

I laughed so much and so hard at this book. Izzy O’neil is an amazing protagonist and Steven’s comedy writing is absolutely fantastic. The first book was also hilarious, you can find my review of it here.

Captain America – a book that sends a positive message:

Heartstopper

Be still my beating heart for Heartstopper. This was a graphic novel all about friendship, kindness and a blossoming relationship. It’s my go to for a feel-good read. I have a review all about it here.

Thor – a book with a characters strength you admire:

Daisy Jones & The Six

Camila has my whole heart. She is a mother and a wife, sure, but she’s an incredibly intelligent and strong women. In all the madness of Daisy Jones & The Six, she is the calm that is needed as well as being SO kick ass.

Black Widow – a book with a kick-ass female protagonist:

Book Review: Moxie - Jennifer Mathieu
Moxie

Moxie girls fight back. Feminism and fighting back at the patriarchy, Vivian is absolutely incredible. She had the right balance of passion and still being a teenager. Definitely one to pick up if you haven’t already.

Hulk-  a book that made you incredibly angry:

The Cursed Child

Do I even have to explain this one? Closest I’ve ever come to launching a book across a room. In my opinion it was bad fan fiction that completely trashed the books we come to know and love.

Hawkeye – an underrated book you think more people should pay attention to

Orbiting Jupiter - Gary D. Schmidt
Orbiting Jupiter

Before I picked this up at YALC last year, I had heard nothing about it and after reading I think everyone should have picked it up. There is so much packed into such a small book. I absolutely fell in love with it.

{BONUS} Loki – a book with a twist or surprise that tricked you:

My Sister’s Keeper

I read this when I was around 15 and the end completely threw me off, I did not see it coming. Luckily I also hadn’t seen the film (the film and the book have completely different endings). But, without spoilers it’s hard to explain why I was so shocked and so emotional. Picoult knows about to pack a punch in a twist.

What would you choose for these? I’d love to know in the comments or even in a tag post!

March 2019 Favourites

It’s time for my favourites agaaaaain! I’ll admit I was unsure about doing one for this month as life has been SUPER quiet. I haven’t been travelling into London much so I’ve mostly been a homebody.

Books

Boooooks, wonderful booooks. I’ll have a full post of what I read in March coming up for you guys but I had an even split of fiction and non-fiction in my favourites this month.

I picked up Internment by Samira Ahmed after loving her debut and this got a 4.5 star rating from me. A story set in a not too distant future where Muslims are sent to Internment camps – something I’m scared could happen in this current climate.

Next up was That’s Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger another new release. This focuses on the lives of school shooting survivors and what really happened on that day, rather than what was reported. This also got 4.5 stars from me, a really interesting read.

I was sent a copy of Mind On Fire by Arnold Thomas Fanning, a memoir about the author’s life with mental illness, a 4 star read from me. This was a tough but incredibly well written book and I’m so excited that it’s on the Wellcome Prize shortlist for 2019! Full review to come.

And finally I was given an early release copy of Voices of Powerful Women by Zoe Sallis. This is a collection of big questions put to incredible women and although I didn’t know all of them it was a refreshing read.

Movies

Ummm, hello new favourite superhero with a kick ass soundtrack. I love Captain Marvel and really wish that I’d had her growing up. This film has proven that there is a place for female superheroes so umm, Marvel can we get that Black Widow and Scarlet Witch movie going? Thanks.

Gigs

I went to 2 amazing gigs in March with some of my favourite people. First up, George Ezra with my sister and I can honestly say he is brilliant live and was well worth the wait. This was my sister’s Christmas present from me, I always try and get her a gig ticket/something to look forward to.

I also went to see Dream State. Ali’s a fan and got me into them, so he got us tickets to a local show, these guys are also going to be playing Reading & Leeds this year. Definitely one to watch.

Wompa

And three became four. Yep we got our fourth hamster baby this month, I spotted her and thought no, we have enough. Then I called Ali…who told me to go get her, within 5 minutes I was back in the shop. She’s called Wompa, she’s very inquisitive and right now likes to bite things, including me.

General Life

Ok guys, not to brag or anything but I went out TWICE this month. I know, who is this party girl? I kid, I kid. A night of drinking for funsies and a birthday celebration but, you know a girl can’t go too wild.

I also got Ali home from tour and he got me this AWESOME Harry Potter jacket (an engagement ring one month and a jacket the next – definitely picked a winner there). And finally, I just wanted to share with you all this dress that my Mum got me because I felt hella cute.

Avengers Infinity War (NO SPOILERS)

MV5BMjMxNjY2MDU1OV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzY1MTUwNTM@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,674,1000_AL_ (1)

There are very few movies I will go an see on the day of release, currently, only Star Wars and certain Marvel are regulars on my, need to watch as soon as I can, list. So I saw Avengers Infinity War on the day of release and it was AMAZING. Of course, this isn’t a spoiler post because I’m not a total Asshat.

This film, wow, what an emotional rollercoaster. I’m not going to try and list all of the characters in this movie but, honestly, I was a little nervous as to how this was going to work. I really wanted this to be good but what it too ambitious? In short, no. The writers of this movie need all of the awards, every single one. This was a masterpiece.

One of the things I love the most about Marvel is the humor injected throughout. I laughed so hard and the groups that the superheroes were put in to follow their stories. These egos put together and having to deal with this other superhero muscling in on their turf. The results were brilliant and so well put together.

By the end I had felt every emotion you could feel, I’d laughed, I’d cried, I’d gasped. These were characters I’d grown to love, I’m not a super fan of Marvel films, not the early ones but I still loved the majority of these characters so much. And I cried, I cried so much during but not in a silly way, the film wasn’t cheesy.

So, do I even need to tell you to go see this film? GO AND BOOK TICKETS NOW! The day after I was ready to see it again and, money permitting, I will. I’m already impatient for the next Avengers movie after the ending that completely shocked me. What are you waiting for? Go now!

Seen it already? Let me know what you thought in the comments below!

Sunday Seven: Films I Can’t Wait to See

popcorn-1085072_1280

We’re now in the last quarter of the year (how it’s come around so quickly I have no idea) and while I’m sad that the days are getting shorter and rainy days are becoming more frequent, I’m also excited because that means that curling up in the dark of a cinema instead of being outside isn’t frowned upon. So here are 7 films that are still to come this year that I’ll be picking up a ticket for.

Bridget Jones’s Baby

16th September

I’ve loved Bridget Jones for years so hearing that she was going to come back and it wasn’t going to be based on the latest book made me stupidly happy. I have plans to go on my birthday weekend to see what Bridget’s got herself  into this time.

the_girl_on_the_train

The Girl on The Train

7th October

I saw the trailer for this and while it’s spoilt some things about the book, which I intend to read before seeing it, I was hooked. I can’t wait to see one Emily Blunt in this kind of role.

The Light Between Oceans

4th November

I loved this in novel form and I’m both excited and nervous to see how it comes across in a movie. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking story with Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) playing the female lead.

Rogue One

16th December

This story is set before A New Hope and after seeing what Disney have done with The Force Awakens I have high hopes that they can pull this off too. It’s all about how the Rebels got hold of the plans for the Death Star. *please be good, please be good, please be good*

Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them

18th November

Harry Potter and Eddie Redmayne combined? Sold.

Doctor Strange

28th October

Marvel knows how to make a good movie. While I wasn’t crazy about the Doctor Strange comic book I read, I have seen the trailer and it appears to have the Marvel charm. This is going to be a definite watch.

a_united_kingdom_poster

A United Kingdom

25th November

I don’t know too much about this film but the trailer looked breathtaking a story of love against the odds as the Prince of Botswana marries a young white woman in the 1940s.

What else should I be booking a ticket for? Let me know in the comments!

Marvel Collector Corps: Spider-Man Unboxing and Review

It’s time for some geeky goodness here on chloemetzger.com! My Marvel Collector Corps box has now arrived and I was super excited because Spider-Man was the first comic book I bought and to me has always been one of the best super heroes ever. It’s definitely made up for the slight disappointment I felt last month . I will say though for DC fans, I would happily get the DC Legion of Collectors box to review, however, it is only available in the US so unless that changes I won’t be able to get one to review for you! Anyway, on with the review. If you don’t want to know any spoilers please DON’T GO BEYOND THIS POINT, for now, pop back later!

Monthly Badges

I’m definitely in favour of these badges, you know what they are and who they represent, which is what you want from a badge really. Who wants to be asked?

Exclusive Spider-Man Funko

I wasn’t keen on the original Spider-Man release from Funko (plus my sister received him at Christmas, not bitter, not bitter at all). There have been more Spidey releases since then, but I haven’t got around to picking one up so I was SUPER  excited to get this! He’s absolutely fab and, in my opinion, the right colours too. Good job Funko!

Exclusive Fabrikations Spider-Man

I’ve never bought a Fabrikation before but squealed when I opened the box. He’s so cute!! He also stands up on his own, I absolutely love this and it’s brilliant quality too.

Spider-Man hat

Now, this is cool. Can I get away with it? That is yet to be seen but I love the fact that it’s geared towards the Summer, it’s a little different and it’s an exclusive. Again Marvel have done a great job.

MCC Variant

And, as with every issue an MCC variant, simple design but I absolutely love it.

Marvel have produced an absolute cracker of a box! I absolutely loved every item and while it doesn’t seem like much, it’s all brilliant quality. The theme for next month’s crate is Dr Strange, not a character I’ve been into before but I look forward to seeing the new movie.

What did you think of this month’s box? Leave in the comments below!

Marvel Collector Corps: Women of Power Review and Unboxing

It’s that time again! Yes, yesterday my Marvel Collector Corps box landed yesterday and knowing that Spider Gwen was on the front of the box got me SUPER excited when it was announced so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the box and see what’s inside. So for my full unboxing and review keep scrolling, if you DON’T want any spoilers then pop back later.

Spider Gwen T-shirt

This is my favourite part of the box this month. Spider Gwen was the first comic book that I properly got into, Spider man the first super-hero. Although I’m not keen on it being grey (it’s summer, everyone’s all sweaty and gross) but I do love the design.

IMG_7770

Pin and Badge

As usual there are the badge and pin that come with every set. I’m not that keen on the design and feel like there could have been better women to put on, just my opinion.

IMG_7771

Civil War 2, Issue 1

I’ve been waiting to pick this up for a while and I’m super happy it was included. Obviously Captain Marvel is key in this series and it’ll be interesting to have a flick through and see how it holds up to the original Civil War. Also I absolutely love the cover, as I do with all the variants I’ve received so far.

IMG_7768

Mystery Mini’s

I kind of didn’t get the point of these. The whole point of mystery mini’s is the excitement of not knowing what’s in the box and seeing who you get. Giving us these with the characters on the front was kind of disappointing and took away from the point of them.

IMG_7767

Squirrel Girl Pop Vinyl

Now I’ll admit, I didn’t know Squirrel girl was a thing, I’ve never seen her, read a comic book and of that. I was quite disappointed with her and I won’t be keeping the pop.

IMG_7766

Overall this is the box that I’ve liked least since I started collecting. While I can appreciate that for some it was a good box I was very underwhelmed. I’m holding out a lot more hope for the next MCM box which is Spider Man, but unfortunately this one wasn’t for me.

Marvel Collector Corps: Captain America Civil War Unboxing and Review

IMG_7148

It’s that time again, my Marvel Collector Corps box has finally arrived after I’ve tracked it and have been clock watching to see when it would come. Now I did see some spoilers online a week ago but I was totally psyched and actually forgot all but one of the contents when it arrived this morning! As always this is going to go through ALL the contents so if you don’t want to know what’s in the box LOOK AWAY NOW! You have been warned. Now let’s get going and look into this box of wonder.

IMG_7150

Civil War, Whose Side Are You On T-Shirt

As far as I’m aware every box comes with a t-shirt and I’m in LOVE with this one. The shirt has a great design and is of a really good quality too, I can see myself using this shirt quite a lot and no guesses for what I’m wearing when I FINALLY get to see the movie next week.

IMG_7154

Exclusive Pin and Badge

As with every crate you get a pin and badge, they are a cool design but I’m not sure what people do with them…so far mine just sit in a little box so if anyone has any suggestions for me leave them in the comments below!

IMG_7151

Black Panther Comic Book

I’ve never encountered the character of Black Panter before so it was nice that this was included because I don’t think I’m the only one who needs a little more info about the background of Black Panther.

IMG_7155

Lanyard

This was something I wasn’t expecting, if I’m honest this is a little strange for the box. Again it’s of a good quality and I’m sure I’ll find some use for it BUT I think it was added as an extra because of the two amazing boxed items that are also in there…

IMG_7153

Unmasked Tony Stark Dorb, exclusive to MCC.

Now, I’ve mentioned on here before I’m not a Dorbz collector, not because I don’t think they’re cute simply because I don’t have the space or the money for another collection after my Pops and my comic books. I absolutely LOVE this it’s something really different and cute and a great addition to the box.

IMG_7159

Captain America/ Iron Man Action Stance Funko Pop 2 Pack

I wondered when I ordered if it was going to be an either/or of Captain America or Iron Man. Now I already have 2 Captain America’s and 2 Iron Man’s so I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep this or not but seeing the action poses has definitely changed my mind. I mean, look how cool!

IMG_7149

Of course I was impressed by this box, wouldn’t you be? With two boxed items, a quality t-shirt and comic book it was well worth the money spent and once again a kick ass collection. Well done Marvel, definitely adding to the hype, bring on Civil War!
