Sunday Seven: My Busy Week!

Ever since I got back from Majorca, my life has been so damn busy! To the point where I worried my blog was suffering because I was getting home and just falling asleep. This week, in particular, has been so busy but also a lot of fun, so for something a little different I wanted to share with you a snippet from my super busy week!

 IMG_5489

Wickett

While I was staying at my Mum’s house sitting, Wickett and I had some quality time and he started to fall asleep in my hand. This was a BIG deal, Wickett hates being picked up, he really doesn’t like it. So for him to cuddle up and let me hold him was huge. I really wanted Ali to see and cuddle him and this week Ali to have the cuddle too!

Goth lipstick of dreams

When I was a teenager I wanted to be a full emo/goth but I was never quite brave enough to get black lipstick. I found some for a pound and decided what the hell. Who knows when I’ll wear it (it was to go see the Addams family but it was raining and smudgy). My Dad says this picture makes it look like I’m in a movie, I’m down with that.

IMG_5484

New Harry Potter Pops!

There are new Funko pops. I may have pre ordered one or two…oops.

IMG_5492

Dinner with friends

Ali works most weekends in the summer, which means organising going out with friends can be difficult. We finally managed to lock down an evening where the four of us could go to dinner at a local pub. Look at this dessert though. Nom.

IMG_5495

Sonia’s leaving tea party

I’m going to be taking over from a lovely lady called Sonia while she is on maternity leave. We had an absolutely adorable tea party for her on Friday with cakes, biscuits and tea. It was all so adorable and tasted so good. I think the whole office was on a sugar crash at the end of the day.

IMG_5512

My first work night out

That evening I went for my first Indian! I know, I’m 22 years old and have never had an Indian. I had the best time chatting, eating and drinking with my new colleagues. I also had the first glass of wine I’ve ever really enjoyed. New woman, right here.

The Addams Family Musical!

Abbie and I went to Southampton for her birthday surprise! I’ve had these tickets for MONTHS and it was so hard not telling her, I almost burst on her birthday last week because I was so excited. I’m a huge fan of Carrie Hope Fletcher who played Wednesday Addams, she didn’t disappoint!

I wish I could say this week was going to be a slower one, but I’d be wrong with dinners, writing and Pride! Here’s to a busy summer!

Feminist Fridays: You’re Not Guilty, Just Hungry

img_1504

In the last few days I’ve found myself using negative language in regards to food, when talking about eating a cupcake or getting take out with a friend I’ve been describing eating these things as ‘bad’ or ‘naughty’. I’ve been surrounded by other women talking about a ‘naughty’ slice of cake or hating themselves for not sticking only to fruit. I’ve also noticed that I hardly ever hear men speaking like this. I don’t hear men worrying about getting into a certain outfit for Christmas events.

I don’t know where this came from. Why there’s this idea of naughty food. Actually, that’s a lie, I know exactly where it came from. It came from diets, from women being told that to be beautiful they must look a certain way. Of course, if we’re having a little history lesson here, the concept of beauty changes throughout time. Look at the early 2000s when everyone who was anyone strived to get to a size 0, whereas a hundred years ago being that thin was seen as a sign of poverty, to be bigger was to be more desirable.

With Christmas just around the corner so many of us are denying ourselves the food we want to slip into a dress perhaps. I’ve been told by countless women they’ll buy clothes they know are too small in order to make them lose weight. Now, I’ll make it clear I’m not against anyone looking after themselves and being fit and healthy but I do wonder what impact this will have in the long term. How linking food to behaviour will impact not only us but those around us. By calling a piece of food good or bad will impact us mentally with these feelings of guilt that really don’t belong.

So I’ll say it and I want you to repeat it. I’m not guilty, just hungry. Life is short, while I know we all want to be our best selves eating a muffin while you’re out for coffee with your friends isn’t the end of the world. Buying a dress in your actual size and knowing you’ll be comfortable rather than struggling and feeling self-conscious if it doesn’t fit isn’t a terrible thing.  If you’re hungry, eat. Starving yourself and denying yourself won’t make you happy. You’re beautiful just the way you are.

Sunday Seven: Super Cakes from the Cake and Bake show 2016

Yesterday Abbie, Sums, Mum and I headed into London to go to this years cake and bake show. The absolute best part was definitely the competition entries. The skill and artistry that have gone into making these was amazing. There were so many good ones and it was hard to pick just 7 to show you all but here are some of my favourites.

img_0949

Reign of Fire by Mylene Wolfe

The detail that went into each of the tiny scales, the facial features and the wings was absolutely incredible. I’m pretty sure this is Smaug, although that tag doesn’t specifically say so.

img_0963

Enchanted by Jane Lashbrook

This was both terrifying as well as being enchanting as its name suggests. I don’t think the picture does justice to how lifelike this cake looked.

      img_0969img_0970

Dragon Warrior by Zahir Rathod

There were multiple warriors and dragons but this was absolutely incredible because everything was edible on this cake, every single part.

img_0947

The BFG by Noemi Orbay

This is just amazing, the size, the kindness of the face I just absolutely loved it.

img_0922

Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat

Harry Potter Cake? Of course this was going to make the list. Harry Potter will always make the list.

The Little Mermaid by Amoy Stone

This was a beautiful cake, as well as the main mermaid I loved the detail of the growth that she’s sitting on. I also loved the fact that Amoy didn’t just make Disney’s version, instead this focuses on the original fairy tale.

Honeydukes Express Harry Potter by Namrah Arfan

More Harry Potter! I loved the originality of this, using Honeydukes and the fact that there were so many individual pieces, particularly the Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans that had been hand crafted. I wanted to take this home the most.

Sunday Seven: Best Things About Autumn

sunday-seven-autumn-favourites

This week welcomed the first day of Autumn, which I was stupidly excited about. I absolutely love Autumn, it’s my favourite season of the year, because the sun can still be shining but it’s also great to snuggle up with blankets, books and tea. To honor the amazing season finally coming around this weeks Sunday Seven is dedicated to the great things to look forward to in Autumn.

Going back to Jumpers, Scarfs and Hats! Come at me!

img_5221

Although I am prone to losing a hat or a scarf sometimes I absolutely love getting snuggled up and I can wear chunky jumpers to work with some tights and a nice skirt, SO much easier to be comfortable and look good in the Autumn.

Lush’s Halloween and Christmas Ranges Are Out!

img_0769

I’m a HUGE Lush fan, Autumn is my favourite time of year for their products with two new lots of seasonal items. After popping in to get some Pumpkin Bath Bombs yesterday, Abbie and I will be heading back next weekend when their Christmas range hits the shop! I’m also planning a trip to their Oxford Street shop to pick up some exclusives! To see the whole range (which is going to take most of my bank account) go to their website.

Hot Chocolate, Lots and Lots of Hot Chocolate

Mmmm, mmm, mmm.

Morning Sunshine

Crisp air and August Sunshine makes getting up that little bit easier.

Comfort Food

Pies, Stews, Cakes, ALL THE FOOD.

Onesie and Fluffy Pyjama Life

img_5990

I’m a huge onesie fan. I have more than I’m going to admit and there’s nothing better than a good pair of Primark chunky PJs on a cold night.

Bonfire Night (UK only) and Halloween

pexels-photo-93000-large

In the UK we have Bonfire Night. It’s a night full of Fireworks, Bonfires and Sparklers. I have so many fond memories of being wrapped up in layers and heading to the local War Memorial Park with my family to watch the town fireworks, sadly it’s been cancelled this year due to costs. That said Autumn also brings Halloween! Although this year it’s on a Monday, which means I will be eating sweets and waiting for Trick or Treaters!

What are your favourite things about Autumn? Let me know in the comments below!

Sunday Seven: My Seven Favourite Things About Up North

I’m writing this post tucked up in Ali’s grandparent’s living room in Durham. We try and make the trip as often as we can, hopefully yearly and I absolutely LOVE it up here. Despite the fact I’m always cold there’s so much about being in the North that I love, here are just 7 things. IMG_2337

The Angel of the North

Isn’t she beautiful? An iconic part of the North and strong as hell, just like the people who surround her.

IMG_2343

The People

Miller’s are good people. I love spending time with Ali’s family and everyone up here is lovely. It also makes me happy as I have family that came from Newcastle so a little bit of me is from here too.

IMG_2349

The Buildings

I love taking walks around Durham and Newcastle because the buildings are absolutely beautiful, look at this street. There’s also castles and loads of different bridges around too so you can really admire the changing times.

IMG_2334

Ali’s Gran’s cooking

Ali’s gran makes excellent cakes, this weekend we’ve been treated to chocolate cake with jam and cream. I’ve been taking notice so hopefully I’ll be a cak baking expert soon.

Newcastle

There’s something about this city that is magical. We took a long walk yesterday (despite my back protesting most of the way) and there’s so much to see and so many cute shops, the castle, museums and restaurants.

History

There is so much history up here, this is a super old picture (back when I was still at school!) of Ali and I at Hadrian’s Wall, a big set of Roman ruins. There’s also Beamish museum which is a live action museum, train museums. Basically if you like history there’s a lot to do up here.

IMG_7425

Being called Pet

This is, and always will be, one of my favourite parts of coming up north. I love being called pet by Ali’s gran, it makes me feel all cute and adorable.

Have you been up North or do you live up here? What are your favourite parts?

Sunday Seven: Seven of this weeks pics!

I’ve spent most of the past week in Basingstoke, meaning I’ve been very snap happy this week, so for a little something different I wanted to share my top seven snaps of this week.

IMG_7606

Ed doesn’t like me shutting the door whenever I’m at home, he wants all the attention, no matter what time it is. I snapped this little pic while I wanted to sleep and Ed wanted to play.

IMG_7626 This week my little cousin and Godson turned 13. 13! Harvey and I are really close, he’s my little dude and I can’t believe he’s gone from this chubby cheeked baby to a really awesome little man. Also, check out the cake that my super awesome sister made!

IMG_7634 It was doughnut day this week so I popped to the shop and picked up these beautiful, scrummy pink ones. They tasted good, so good. IMG_7600

I was finally able to pick up my Illumicrate from my parents! I was not only surprised but loved every item in the box and can’t wait for my next one. If you missed my post, find it here.IMG_7627

Lottie is my shadow whenever I come home. This didn’t change this week, if you couldn’t find her you could guarantee she was on my bed fast asleep…even if it’s a choice between my Mum’s double bed or my single, she still chooses my bed.

 IMG_7628

This is Betsy, my aunts puppy, she’s also known as Chewbacca by my cousins. I swear she’s like a little walking rug apart from she jumps up and wants cuddles and has a fondness for cake. Don’t you love this little smile too?!

Another one of my little mischief maker in the evening.

Cupcake Creations

Today was cupcake day, something I’ve been both nervous and excited about for the past few weeks. My Mum and sister had been to one of these classes before, at Christmas, and so Mum asked if I wanted to come along to the next one. Now as you all know I’m not the girliest girl most of the time but I do love to bake on my own. When I’m at home I do like to just make some cakes for the sake of it and snack on them for the next few days, baking is more my thing than cooking.

Mum couldn’t come in the end she’s been really sick, some bug or something that Dad has too. So I took my sister and sat in the class, at the start I thought oh God everyone is so quick while I’m stumbling along. There were a lot of people who obviously had spent a lot of time working on cupcakes but others were as slow as me. As we tried to make bows I got more and more frustrated it just wasn’t working. I was folding and twisting and it just wouldn’t go the way I wanted it.

IMG_4142

Experimenting with different flowers and techniques such as the ribbon rose, traditional rose, peals and an open flower.

You all know that I’m a perfectionist, I love getting things write and get easily frustrated when I get things wrong. I get irritated like this quite a lot, especially when it takes me longer to understand things but I’m gradually accepting that it’s a part of who I am, sometimes I take a bit longer. Other times I’ll get things, just like today’s rose making, I can definitely make roses for cupcakes as well as small flowers. I’m so excited that I now have this skill! I can’t wait to make and experiment with my cakes in the new flat, maybe that will fatten Ali up a bit, everyone always say’s he’s too skinny! The best part about today though was spending time and helping my sister while she also helped me. I love being around all my family and Ali at the moment, it makes sometimes feeling down a lot easier.

My favourite decorations I did today, they came out beautifully
