October’s Owlcrate Review and Unboxing

img_0742

It’s my favourite time of the moooooonth! Yes, it’s unboxing and this is the only box I’m receiving this month. Owlcrate went with a Fairytale theme this month and I was so excited! Because everyone needs a little magic in their life, right?

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter

I’d never heard of this book but I’m intrigued by the blurb. I’ve always wanted to read more fairytale retellings, just because there’s so many places you can go with it, there’s also a really interesting class dynamic (that’s the lit geek in me coming out). It’s now on the TBR pile, have a look and see if it’s going to be on yours too!

Bookmark and Oz Notebook.

Aren’t these adorable?! I’m always game for a new bookmark (you can never have enough). I loved the notebook too, it’s a cute size that you can just throw in your bag and has a vintage vibe to it. img_1086

Pin Badge and Bookmark

While I wasn’t that keen on the pin badge I loved the message on the bookmark and I’ll definitely be checking out The New World Series and seeing what it’s all about.

Sleeping Beauty Bracelet

This is absolutely adorable and really well crafted. It was a nice surprise and even though I’m not big on jewellery myself it’s definitely peaked my interest in what is to come.

Peter Pan Hat

I literally squealed when I saw this. I absolutely love Peter Pan, it’s one of my favourite Disney films (because who doesn’t love Peter Pan?). I’ve been wearing it with pride.

What did you think of this month’s Owlcrate? Let me know in the comments below!

I’m meltinggggggg

IMG_3736

Now I may not be the Wicked Witch, although damn I wish I could be every night in Wicked, but I’m pretty sure I’m melting right now. I know, I know, how British of me a few days and I’m complaining. BUT! I am not someone who wishes for extreme heat, the only time I can hack it is when I’ve paid to go to another country and have access to a pool and preferably some juicy cocktails. Even in that situation I need to be able to sit under some shade.

This morning saw me putting on factor 30 in an effort to keep myself from turning lobster red. All hail the pale kids, we are the warriors in this fight, the sun is definitely not our friend.  My friend phil has decided all he wants for christmas is some melanin …maybe I should put that on my list too. While I love warm weather, enough to go out in jeans and a t-shirt, maybe a cheeky pair of shorts this is more like walking into a sauna complete with lots of nipples in the street (seriously guys put. them. away. I don’t need to see your man nips).

Luckily I found some happiness in the beautifully air conditioned rooms at uni whilst working today. All in all though it’s been a pretty awesome day, despite the heat. I got to do some amazing work for the uni, get some questions answered about dissertation, have a gorgeous frappachino with the amazing Mr Phil Brookes (who also saved me from not having any tea this morning, what.a.babe.), go book shopping again *cough* book haul *cough* and have a catch up with Joe which always makes me smile.

So I’m afraid that is as much creative juice as I can give right now, my brain is turning to mush and my bed is calling me! BUT as always I love to hear from you guys so drop me a comment below with how you’re coping with the heat where you are! And coming up tomorrow a review of Caitlin Moran’s How to be a Woman.

Going home

On my way home nothing else says it really…

It’s been a long semester to say the least. I know that right most of us are tired, a little bit hungrier than we were and a little bit wiser to the world. Well that last bit might not be true for all of us. Either way as much as I love uni there is nothing like coming home for a few weeks and being able to relax. It’s not just being able to do your washing for free and having someone to cook for you (I’ve had that for the last few days anyway) its just being where you can be yourself. I’m coming home to relax and even though I’ll be working for a fair bit of it I feel better after one day.

I’ve heard that Christmas is a good and bad point for everyone. You can go home and recharge, it’s time to work things out. The bad point is you have to go back eventually and I’m worried that’ll be hard when it comes. I don’t want to start the new year on a low when I’ve been doing so well not to be swallowed up by them. So I’m gonna stay positive and hope that I can recharge my batteries.
