How I Unwind After A Long Day

How I Unwind After A Long Day

The only thing I want to do after a long day, particularly one in the city, is relax. I’m not the best person at relaxing…I’m actually quite terrible but there are some things I can do to help myself out.

Lush Bath

I love a good Lush bath to unwind. I’m always a big fan of something sweet as well as colourful, oh and glitter. I’m not afraid of glitter. Luxury Lush Pud below!

Comfy Clothes

On with the pyjama bottoms and a baggy t-shirt. If I’ve had a long day, it normally means I’m quite achy too

My home is my space and I want to be as comfortable as possible, you’ll also find that my make up is scrubbed off my face at home.

Slipper Socks or Fluffy Socks

I’m a huge fan of fluffy socks or slipper socks, even better if they have woodland creatures on them (I have two fox pairs as I write this).

I’m always cold and not a big fan of regular slippers so these are a dream. Buy yourself a pair and you will never look back.

A Cup Of Tea

I have a mug that is almost as big as my face because I love tea that much. Getting a good cuppa and curling up is a very British way to chill out but it’s one of my favourite ways to do so. If you’re wondering, it’s milk and two sugars.

A Good Book

I’ll read at any time but it’s one of the very few ways I can really relax and switch off from real life. I get invested in the story, which is why I’m also not afraid to discard a book if I’m not interested!

It sounds cliché but I really can get lost in a good book. Everything else disappears and it’s just me and the story.

Sleep

An early night does the world of good, and sometimes that’s all you need.

What helps you relax? I’d love to know below!

Cold Weather essentials for spoonies

Cold Weather Essentials For Spoonies!

Brr, it’s chilly!

Very few people love the freezing cold, but when you’re a Spoonie (a name for someone who has a chronic illness) it can be a bit of a nightmare. For me, personally, the bold really makes my joints ache so it’s easy to feel a bit miserable and grumpy. So, it got me thinking, what are my essentials for the cold weather as a Spoonie?

A Good Coat

Ok, I’m going to sound like your Mum. I was young and cool once and wanted to just wear a hoodie and no coat. Those days are OVER. Spending money on a warm coat is a good idea because staying warm is key (you’ll see a theme through this post). I’ve had coats from Superdry for the past few years and can highly recommend them.

Hat and Scarf

I have a really cosy Gryffindor scarf that I absolutely love and top it off with a matching red hat (go, go Gryffindor). These can make all the difference for keeping yourself warm and you can get some really cute ones too! Also when I was leaving the house and it was -5 outside they were essential.

Gloves

I lose gloves all the time. Every single year. Which is why I try not to buy ones that are really expensive. As nice as keeping your fingers toasty is, for me it’s much more important that the thicker material on my wrists keeps them nice and toasty as my wrists can get very sore when it gets to the minus numbers.

2018

Hot Water Bottle

I’ve been known to take a hot water bottle to work. I have absolutely no shame in that. They are an amazing invention. Cold at night? Hot Water Bottle. Achy joints? Hot Water Bottle. Period Cramps? Hot Water Bottle. They rule all! You can also get them really cheap on Amazon or in Primark etc. Mine was under £5 a few years ago.

Blankets

I have a thing about blankets. Pro tip, Primark have amazingly snuggly blankets. I’ve got probably 7 or 8 blankets, most of them are Disney. I love them and you can find me every night snuggled up with a blanket.

Fluffy Socks

Do I really need to explain these? Good for keeping your feet warm, they’re fun and you can slide across the floor.

Warm Drinks

All the tea for me!

What do you think is essential for getting through the winter months? Let me know in the comments below!

I picked this up and I cannot stop. This is an exclusive proof copy of a new YA Sci-fi novel. I’m calling it now that this is going to be HUGE. Think of a kind of Sci-fi Hunger Games vibe. That’s all I say, I love it.

February Favourites!

It’s come around again it’s time for my monthly favourites!

Books:

This month I’ve read a fair amount (although maybe not as much as I’d like) and three books have stood out to me. The first was sent to me by Diamond Press, it’s called March and is a graphic novel written by John Lewis, a key figure in the Civil Rights movement, this is the first in a three-part series and I can’t wait to read the rest. Secondly is Here We Are, I reviewed this (catch it here) and raved about it because it is an incredible book, full of inclusion, intelligence as well as being fun! And finally, although I haven’t finished reading it, I am in love with Giovanna Fletchers newest book about being a mother. It’s not something I personally know anything about, being a mother, but I love the way Gi writes (I found her on her Youtube channel)  and it makes me feel better about the prospect of being a mother in the future.

Music:

This month was very Busted orientated, earlier this month Abbie and I went to see Busted live (again) on their Midnight Driver tour. I’ve listened to the album a lot this month it’s got an 80s vibe to it and a lot of great and upbeat tracks. Ed Sheeran also dropped a few songs this month which I’ve been obsessively listening to (while getting ready to go see him on tour later in the year). Last but not least two bands I’ve been listening to are Lower Than Atlantis and their new album Safe in Sound, I’ve also been listening to a band called Broadside thanks to my lovely boyfriend Ali.

Shop:

images

After the move it’s been a quite quiet month in terms of any spending. Instead, I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping, particularly in Oasis’s where I’ve fallen in love with their latest pieces!

Watching:

Yep, my viewing has been a little dark and very Netflix orientated this month. I wanted to start a new series and had heard great things about How To Get Away With Murder, so I started to watch. I also noticed that The People vs O J Simpson had been added, which I loved when it aired last year. Hopefully next months viewing will be little lighter!

General:

I’ve really embraced Lush baths to ease the pain of my back which has produced some beautiful colours! I also received some lovely gifts after coming home including a swear word colouring book and flowers! On the subject of food I’ve been loving Tetley Boost teas and getting into my own baking! I’m also loving the new Powerpuff Girls range that Primark are embracing at the moment, I LOVED the Powerpuff Girls growing up so my Mum treated me to these. And finally my first gym session post injection, I was so proud of myself- read about it here.

What have your favourite things been this month? Any recommendations? Let me know in the comments below!

Wonderland – October’s Owlcrate

img_1428

It’s Owlcrate time again! Unfortunately, I think this is going to be my last Owlcrate for a while just because it is really expensive to ship to the UK. That said, I’ve absolutely loved receiving them so hopefully at some point in the future I’ll be able to start my order up again. This month’s theme was Wonderland and it was incredible.

img_1434

First up was this adorable copy of the novel Alice in Wonderland and matching bookmark, designed by Risa Rodil. This was so cute and it means that there were two books in this months Owlcrate, I’m always up for more books.

img_1433

Wonderland Elixer Exclusive Tea. This was made for Owlcrate by Riddle’s Tea Shoppe and it smells lovely. I’m not sure what it will taste like because I’m not a flavoured tea person (although I’m trying to be) but I LOVED the absolutely gorgeous tin that it came in.

img_1429

Some original Alice illustrations also made an appearance. This magnet made by Evie Bookish has a quote that I want plastered on the walls. A book lovers dream.

img_1435

How cute is this bookmark?! Made by Authored Adornments this is so cute and has the ‘curiouser and curiouser’ quote on it too. So cute!

 img_1438

This is an exclusive cover for the novel Heartless by Marissa Meyer. I’ve never read a book by the author but I’ve heard so many good things so I can’t wait to get stuck in and see what I think. img_1449

Here’s the monthly badge, while it’s cute, again the badges are something I don’t really feel are needed in the box but they’re a cute addition.
